self-regulation, and promote their sense of self.
At Crispus Attucks Children's Center, we nurture and care for
each child individually, helping them grow up strong and smart.
Every day, our trained teachers guide children through a range of multi-sensory activities that help them learn, share, and most of all enjoy their childhood. From babies as young as one month to boisterous pre-schoolers up to age six, Crispus Attucks Children's Center is there to guide your child through all stages of their development.
Pre-kindergarten is a critical time for children as they begin the adventure of a lifetime of learning. Our caring, experienced teachers are dedicated to providing a rich, nurturing environment that will prepare your child(ren) for kindergarten.
We promote independence in an organized atmosphere, as it is increasingly important for children to be their own thinkers. We also teach children to work well within a group through listening, sharing, and cooperation.
Assessment-referring back, if indicated, to a child's physician/other specialists to decide how to respond to issues identified. This might include having the child screened by our in-house mental health specialist, utilizing the Behavior Assessment System For Children and/or Pediatric Symptom Checklist; referral for a neurological and/or physical evaluation. The process considers child/family culture/values and is carefully reviewed by our Inter-Disciplinary Team. During the process, Home for Little Wanderers and Child Care Choices provide onsite screening services. CACC takes a long-term approach to screen the whole child which utilizes outside/specialized resources. It starts during intake with a comprehensive parent interview, physical and birth record to establish a child 's developmental/family history. Within the first 30 days of enrollment, we use The Creative Curriculum.
After the first 30 days, our policy is to complete the initial evaluation to determine/diagnose any development delays and plan intervention strategies based on need. During all developmental screenings, parents are engaged in information sharing and decision-making. If parents need advocacy/support, CACC provides it. We offer vision, hearing, speech/language, dental screenings annually and work with parents to obtain prompt treatment.
For this 2021-2022 school year, we are incorporating zoo-phonics in our curriculum. The Zoo-phonics Multisensory Language Arts Program is a kinesthetic, multi-modal approach to learning all aspects of language arts, including vocabulary development and articulation, based on phonics and phonemic awareness. Zoo-phonics is a method developed to make children strong readers and spellers using a “phono” (hearing), “oral” (speaking), “visual” (seeing), “kinesthetic” (moving), and tactile (touching)—whole brain approach. Students actually learn the sounds of the alphabet and advanced phonemic concepts through an easily understood, concrete method of presentation. Zoo-phonics uses animals drawn in the shapes of the letters for ease in memory. A related body movement given for each letter. This concrete approach cements the sounds to the shapes of the letters. Lowercase letters and their sounds are taught first (needed 95% of the time in text), capital letters and letter names are taught later.
