Age appropriate activities from our curricula*** for Pre-schoolers introduces young children to the worlds of science, history, mathematics, reading, technology, and the arts. Through it all, our teachers encourage their curiosity for learning, help them make positive social choices, teach self-regulation, and promote their sense of self.
At Crispus Attucks Children's Center, we nurture and care for each child individually, helping them grow up strong
and smart. Every day, our trained teachers guide children through a range of multi-sensory activities that help them
learn, share, and most of all enjoy their childhood. From babies as young as one month to boisterous pre-schoolers
up to age six, Crispus Attucks Children's Center is there to guide your child through all stages of their development.

Prekindergarten is a critical time for children as they begin the adventure of a lifetime of learning. Our caring, experienced teachers are dedicated to providing a rich, nurturing environment that will prepare your child for kindergarten.
We promote independence in an organized atmosphere, as it is increasingly important for children to be their own thinkers. We also teach children to work well within a group through listening, sharing and cooperation.
during intake with a comprehensive parent interview, physical and birth record to establish a child 's developmental/family history. Within the first 30 days of enrollment, we use The Creative Curriculum for initial assessment-referring back, if indicated, to a child 's physician/other specialists to decide how to respond to issues identified. This might include having the child screened by our in-house mental health specialist, utilizing the Behavior Assessment System For Children and/or Pediatric Symptom Checklist; referral for a neurological and/or physical evaluation. The process considers child/family culture/values and is carefully reviewed by our Inter-Disciplinary Team. During the process, Home for Little Wanderers and Child Care Choices provide onsite screening services.
After the first 30 days, our policy is to complete the initial evaluation to determine/diagnose any development delay and
plan intervention strategies. During all developmental screening, parents are engaged in information
sharing/decision-making . If parents need advocacy/support, CACC provides it. We offer vision, hearing, speech/language, dental screenings annually and work with parents to obtain prompt treatment.
Given the variability in quality/cultural bias among available tools, and partly due to concern that staff is able to effectively
use the tool, we are conducting evaluations to select a screening tool for preschoolers. We are looking at two
products-Ages & Stages and Devereux-as a potential tool for use starting this fall.
We use the Kindergarten Readiness Indicators Checklist to insure our 4s and 5s acquire essential skills for entering
elementary school.

Across CACC, we use various curriculums to organize lesson plans and target specific objectives. The Active Learning Series and the Creative Curriculum for Preschool are used across the school. Together, they integrate our approach to social emotional, physical, cognitive and language development.
Because children develop at different paces, at the beginning of each school year we establish a developmental baseline for each child and tailor learning strategies to address diverse needs.
Teachers will observe children's behavior and will lesson plan activities based upon each child's needs. For example, if a preschooler is not demonstrating sufficient ability to follow directions, the teacher may work in games/activities that require the ability to follow directions to be successful.
To measure curriculum effectiveness, teachers compare children's progress in meeting age appropriate goals, review each child's progress, and consider feedback from parents.
